"Food with Friends" is a recipe book, published in 2002 by Gary Rhodes. I found it in the Charity Shop in Middleton Cheney. This was the inspiration for tonight's meal together. We cooked Brisket of Beef in Stout (Guiness) with Horseradish Mash (without the horseradish), Glazed Carrots,Parsnip and swede mash, peas and broccoli.
But the real point of the meal is the friends who met around our table. A year ago I don't think one would have described as all as friends. We might have met occasionally in various places and at various times but now, by meeting around a meal table we have become friends. We share our joys and our sorrows, our pleasures and our anxieties, jokes and funny stories, recollections, memories and some future plans and aspirations. Our lives now intermingle and when we have an empty seat at the table we notice. We pray for each other, whether in serious need or just being away with family we know that God would like to bless them.
Jesus spent many hours sharing food with friends. And also at some houses where there were those who didn't see eye to eye with him. Food with friends is an important part of our fellowship and a time when we can relax. the stress of cooking is over, the plates are warmed and ready, the platters are brimming with good things and we give thanks to the Lord for food, fellowship and friends.
We then thank all the friends who got up and did the washing up!
